Job Purpose:

The job holder will work, with the minimum of supervision, on the design & package on all aspects of current and future vehicle platforms and products managing a team of Digital modellers with a variety of skill sets.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
  • Responsibility of ensuring delivery of premium quality CAD solutions to support Design and Engineering intent whilst meeting key programme timing, and budget constraints.
  • Manage, develop and motivate team of Digital modellers to deliver premium quality CAD solutions to support Design and Engineering intent.
  • Plan and prioritise Digital modelling team workload utilising permanent and agency resource.
  • Be able to professionally respond with accurate estimates for resource and time scales to enable efficient programme timing, whilst maintaining best possible output from the Design Studio.
  • Setup and development of CAD delivery standards in order to ensure premium CAD delivery regardless of Surface CAD package used.
  • Support production of physical properties to further develop company standards of excellence in Craftsmanship and Design detail.
  • Ensure the integration of a high degree of feasibility in Design properties prior downstream Engineering, taking a pro-active role suggesting and implementing design ideas using experience and judgement.
  • Support development of key cost and efficiency processes with Design Studio maximising output, minimising cost, but producing the best aesthetics possible.
  •  Support the organisation and management of external supply budget to support premium automotive design solutions.
  • Act a technical expert for Class A production Digital Solutions with Design Studio.
  • Support the entire Design Studio, and external departments of company with feasible CAD solutions to design proposals and actively suggest /implement solutions using experience and judgement.
  • Monitor, justify and implement technical developments within the industry, with particular reference to the evolution of new technologies which could affect design processes.
  • Drive Craftsmanship standards from within Design Studio to further improve quality of Production solutions.
  • Support the identification of alterative and diverse sources of revenue that draw upon the range of disciplines with Design Studio.
  • The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.
Qualification & Experience:
  • Must be fully CAD literate, and able to use a range of CAD tools to create, evaluate CAD work undertaken.
  • Must be PC literate, able to use, and understand a range of PC software to support the Design process.
  • Must be able to setup/use range of visualisation tools including projector/power wall facilities to support the presentation of Design team work.

      • Generate High Integrity data as/where necessary – to defined ‘A’ class standard – i.e. suitable for transfer into other PLM systems (principally TCe/NX).
      • Generate data models suitable for milling/RPT applications (e.g. closed volume STL files).
      • Contribute effectively to team technical discussions to ensure that the component engineers understand proposed design changes.
      • Supporting the Designers with the generation of 3D models from 2D proposals/verbal directions.
      • Provide technical information and support to senior management for design reviews.
      • Carry out special projects, as directed by management.
      • Plan and prioritise own workload.

      • A knowledge or practical use of Generative design would be advantageous.
      Knowledge:

      • 2D Presentation/Animation ability in addition to Class A surfacing expertise.
