The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms is responsible for technical delivery to cost, quality & time for tasks and activities assigned to them by their module team line manager with hybrid working.

Note that any engineer may be asked to work in a non-core module area as project needs dictate. The successful candidate therefore should be able to demonstrate a flexible approach.

Responsibilities

For this role will be able to demonstrate relevant engineering experience, gained from working on similar module area systems design & development in previous roles, with experience from concept to production. Candidate requirements include:

  • CAD operation skills: Expectation for engineer to be able to create and manipulate geometry for primary communication of concepts / schemes. Expectation 95%-time utilisation for CAD geometry generation.
  • Catia v5 operative skills; able to demonstrate high technical competence in generation of 3D geometry & sectional data.
  • Catia v6 experience, is desirable.
  • Experience of using TCUA (Team Centre) & PLM
  • Experience of prior delivery of the designated module systems in the automotive sector
  • Evidence of engineering skills, including ability to manage & resolve engineering issues
  • Evidence of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results
  • Compliance with company procedures & quality standards
  • Involvement in process improvements

Main Activities & Tasks

  • Support the BIW & Closures Lead Engineer in all day-to-day activities.
  • Support other activities as required.
  • Lead the development of 2D and 3D models for closure & mechanism engineering.
  • Store and release data using TCUA and PLM.
  • Engineering BoM development. Cost & weight pack development.
  • PMXU generation – Part identification in BoM for unique or carryover status.
  • Design surface (CAS) feasibility FC-checks. Provide feasibility advice & guidance.
  • Engineering hard-point generation.
  • Implement recommendations where appropriate to create a right first-time release.
  • Participate in cross functional integration reviews for components & systems, considering technical application, form, function & harmonisation of the execution.
  • Drive closure of issues & establish the cost, weight & timing impacts.
  • Support the module deliverables through to the programme required gateway.
  • Support the generation / development of design rules & guidelines. · Engineering Release activity in project support (UPV0 & UPV1) · Closures and mechanisms systems to include: Side closures
  • Tailgate,Hood
  • Drop-glass mechanisms, Drop-glass, Seals, Latches, Handles
  • IRVM
  • Roof systems – fixed glazed & panoramic
  • Wiper system, Roof rails
